Stellenbosch was founded in 1679 by the governer of the Cape Colony, Simon van der Stel and is today, without a doubt, the most gorgeous town in South Africa. Soon after the first settlers arrived the first grapes were planted in the fertile valleys which was to become the pinnacle of the South African wine industry.

From the wine farms to the university in the centre of town, Stellenbosch has maintainied its rich culture and heritage which one can find in the traditional Cape Dutch architecture still very much present today.
Head to town during the day to explore the wide variety of great art and crafts. Each little street holds many hidden treasures that will have you coming back time and again, year after year. Feast on the plethora of foods found at numerous restaurants throughout the town.
Famous 'Oom Samie se Winkel', one of the oldest stores in the country, still continues in the old tradition of the rural trading post and offers everything from handcrafted straw yard brooms to clothing, fruit and veg and arts and crafts.
